Dear Friend,
Do you know that the Lord will fight your battles? There are so many scriptures that talk about this, but let’s consider David and Goliath. David was not afraid of Goliath because he experienced God’s help and strength in fighting both a lion and a bear that attacked his sheep. When it came to the larger battle with Goliath, David didn’t just fight the giant, he actually ran toward him!
David was a good shepherd, even though he was just a boy. He used his rod, staff, and sling to protect and to comfort his little flock. As David watched over his sheep, his faith grew that God was fully capable of watching over him.
Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4
The staff was used to guide, direct, and set boundaries for the sheep. The rod was used to throw or to beat back predators. Just as David fought the lion and the bear and led his little flock to safe places, he fully saw God’s rod and staff as being a comfort to him, protecting him. David’s faith reached even higher! He knew that God would not only beat back his enemies, but provide a banquet for him while the enemy watched!
You spread out a table before me,
provisions in the midst of attack from my enemies;
You care for all my needs, anointing my head with soothing, fragrant oil Certainly that your faithful protection and loving provision will pursue me wherever I go, always, everywhere. I will always be with the Eternal in your house forever.
Psalm 23:5,6 (Voice)
May you experience God’s comfort and protection as you serve Him this week!
