Dear Friend,

Our mouths are the gateway to blessing or cursing, life or death. When the enemy attacks us, we are wise if we keep our mouths shut. Did you know that an open mouth is the gate that gives Satan access into your situation? Access means to give someone the right or the opportunity, or to benefit from.

Be careful little tongue what you say! Satan will seek to benefit from your words by turning them against you, like some shrewd lawyer would in a courtroom. For example, if you grab your throat and moan and complain to the person beside you that a cold is coming on, the devil will be happy to use those words against you and attack you with a cold. Again, if you are faced with a crisis, wait for God to give you a scripture or words that agree with God’s Word. Until then, keep the gate closed!

The wise don’t engage in empty chatter.
What good are such words?
Your own mouth condemns you, not I.
Your own lips testify against you.

Job 15:3,6 (NLT)

The Bible says that the just person will live by faith. The just person will speak faith in all situations, while avoiding empty chatter or saying things that Satan can use against them. If we don’t speak our faith in our conversations, but engage in empty chatter, we invite trouble. You can’t blame God if things fall apart because He’s told us to trust in Him and keep our mouths shut. Keep our gates closed.

Open that gate only when you have words to say that are from our Lord. Jesus said:

The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
John 6:63 (NKJV)

This week, let’s speak the Word!
