Dear friend,

Just as sick or injured people go to a hospital to get well, hurting people go to church to receive healing, too. Jesus is Lord and the head of His church. The Bible tells us that Jesus came to heal broken people.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
  Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV)

Jesus never intended the church to be a gathering for entertainment. He intended His life and His church to be like a hospital that reaches out to the poor and heartbroken. Let me explain.

One night a man had a dream that a new hospital was built and they had a grand opening and an open house scheduled.  They cleaned the marble floors, made each room immaculate, and the doctors and nurses stood at the entryway in white jackets.

In the dream, ambulances came to the hospital with sick and bloody patients. The authorities told the ambulances to take the patients away to a hospital ten miles down the road.

“We can’t have our new hospital all messed up!” one exclaimed.

My friend, the church is for the hurting. Everyone has baggage. Everyone needs Jesus’ healing. Let’s be the anointed ambulance drivers who bring the people bloodied by life’s trials to the feet of Jesus—and to the house of God.

Praise the Lord!
